Amp In A Box
Virtually every iconic guitar song in rock music history has been recorded with a few infamous amps. We all know them, vintage amplifiers that are now quite rare and have a matching price tag. As a result, the market for Amp In A Box pedals has exploded in recent years. Giving mere mortals access to these famous amps from the past.
What is an Amp In A Box Pedal?
In essence, an AIAB pedal mimics the sound of a famous Marshall, Fender or Vox amp as closely as possible. In addition, some pedals go a step further and the ‘feel’ – the way the pedal responds to the dynamics of your playing – has also been recreated. And some pedals also imitate the power amp part of the amp.
How do you use the pedal?
The best way to connect an AIABP pedal to your amp is to not use the EQ on your amp. Set it flat and use the pedal to colorize the sound as desired. Furthermore, it is best to use an amplifier with a lot of headroom so that it is not overloaded with the signal from the pedal. This gives you the closest possible copy of the original amplifier.
Recently, more and more pedals with the sound of slightly less well-known amplifier brands such as Supro, Dumble and Ampeg have appeared on the market. Well-known pedal makers that have an Amp In A Box pedal include JHS, Xotic, Catalinbread, Keeley and Mooer.
