ThorpyFX Six Zero is a vintage fuzz, based on a Tonebender MKI fuzz and a discrete tremolo circuitĀ as designed by masterbuilder Dan Coggins.
This pedal looks back to the 1960s and forward to the 2024s. To capture the 60s Thorpy chose to recreate the sound of the venerable MKI Tonebender. As fuzz enthusiasts will know, the MKI was designed with germanium transistors, and it sounded incredible. But germanium was replaced for a reason (not thermally stable, finicky, inconsistent) so we decided to make the fuzz side silicon, but tuned it to sound and respond as if it were germanium. We then coupled this incredible fuzz with a modified version of the discrete tremolo circuit designed by Dan Coggins way back when he first started designed guitar effect circuits.
With controls for Depth, Rate, Attack and Level this purely analog pedal keeps it functionally simple whilst being deceptively feature packed. The Depth knob allows you to mix how much tremolo you want in with your dry signal.āØāØThe Rate knob controls the rate of the tremolo, from super slow to super-fast. The Attack knobĀ isnāt necessarily a typical gain control, there is a sweet spot on the attack where the fuzz sounds the richest, with the right amount of sustain, clarity, and harmonic content. Outside of the sweet spot you can find many textures and different character from gated and spitty to smooth and liquid.
The Level knob dictates how loud the fuzz is. This pedal is powered by a standard 9 volts power supply (not included).
